From Fat to fit the journey continues…

My name is Matt Bowman I’m 38 years old and not only am I’m a marathon man I’m an ultra marathon man! These are words I thought I’d hear myself  say however now I can.  In 2011 I tipped the scales at a whopping 16.5 stone, that’s not that big I hear your say, well for a small man of 5ft 6inchs it’s big.

After a few personal problems and a long time of Struggling I decided to take back control of my life. I wasn’t happy in my own skin, I wasn’t happy with who I was and change was something I needed to do to help eleviate the darkness I had around me and myself. On January 2014 I declared to the word on Facebook that …

“My name is Matthew, I’m 35 years old and I am fat”

This was the first step to me regaining control of me and began my fight from fat to fit. Over the course of 18 months to June 2015 I shed over 4 stone and went from struggling to run 1 mile to running a marathon in under 4 hours, My greatest achievement yet.

In 2016 I have decided to push myself even further where I will compete in over 18 races ranging from 6.05 miles (10k) to an ultra marathon of 52 miles in one day. Through the use of social media helped me achieve my last goal of running a marathon so I now intend to document my journey of 2016 documenting my training and thoughts in the build up to the 3 main races I’m Competing in

Vienna marathon 10th April 2016

Race to the King ultra marathon 26th June – 52 miles

Loch Ness marathon 25th September.

I have documented my journey from start to now in pictures to shame myself into seeing where I was and also to see what progress I have made. My intention is to start this running/training Blog on 19th December 2015 and these are my thoughts. I’m no professional athlete, I work a full time job and have a (very understanding) wife however I am proof that with hard work you can achieve your goals. I still struggle with aspects of my appearance but I am a much happier person now than I was a few years ago!! If these ramblings , sorry posts, help one person to see what they can achieve I’m happy, if it doesn’t then I’m still happy as I’m getting back to being fit not fat Matt.

Thanks for reading

Matt

Good luck…simply put, you’re gonna need it! However, based on what you’ve been through its clear you make your own luck too. Do it for yourself and pick yourself up even when you feel like you can’t. Trust yourself and keep going.
